BEML, Titagarh, Alstom in focus: Mumbai Railway Vikas floats Rs 21,000-crore tender for AC coaches
The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has invited bids for 2,856 air-conditioned (AC) Vande Metro coaches for the Mumbai suburban rail network. The project, valued at around Rs 21,000 crore, marks one of the biggest opportunities for the country’s coach manufacturers in recent years. Nuvama, in a report, stated that, “After a lull of almost two years, activity has picked up in the coach manufacturing space in India.”
Railways’ freight reform plan moves at slow speed
The National Logistics Policy (NLP), launched in September 2022, seeks to reduce logistics costs to 8 per cent from the current 13-14 per cent of GDP by 2030, through an integrated, cross-sectoral framework. By promoting infrastructure development, digital integration, and better coordination across stakeholders, the policy aims to create a seamless, technology-driven logistics ecosystem.
